General

Sugar Moon Farm is located in Northern Nova Scotia in Earltown, Colchester County, 1 km off Hwy 311 on the Alex MacDoanld Road.

The road is gravel and is maintained by NS Dept of Transportation. During winter or when there is inclement weather, we recommend that you call first before coming in case of poor weather or road conditions or a power outage. We update our voice mail at 8 am if conditions change.

We are open year round, Saturdays and Sundays 10 am to 3 pm. 

We also host Groups outside of these hours and hold occasional evening events such as Chef Nights.

No we are closed that day. We do not open on stat holidays.

At this point we will NOT be open weekdays during March Break but are OPEN on weekends. If things change, we'll update this and post on Social.

 

Due to our tiny but mighty team and limited capacity this year, this sugar camp treat is available only as part of Maple Magic Package or the Owner-led Tour + Sugar-on-snow.

We love dogs. The beautiful white livestock protection dogs behind the electric fence beyond the restaurant are ours.

However, we are not a dog park and neither are the trails.

Dogs are permitted on the Rogart Mountain Trail; however they MUST be on lead at ALL times on the trail as well as in our parking lot and on the Alex MacDonald Road. The trail is on both public and private land and maintained by hard-working volunteers.

Dogs are not permitted inside the restaurant or sugar camp. If you are going to come inside, please leave them in your vehicle or leave them at home.

Please note also: we do not dispose of dog waste at Sugar Moon; you are required to pack out all waste.

We do accommodate private Groups outside of these hours.

To avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend reservations for Weekend Brunch as it can get quite busy. 

Note that you do need reservations in order to book other experiences like Maple Magic, the Owner-Led Tour and Chef Night.

We can accommodate gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan diets; ask your server for suggestions when you arrive.

If you or your guests have other dietary restrictions, please contact us directly by email. We may be able to accommodate your needs.

Reservations

Reservations are strongly recommended as we tend to get busy. You can make reservations for any of our experiences by clicking on the banner at the top of this page.

To make reservations, click on the banner at the top of this page. 

You'll be asked to select your preferred group size and date. You'll see all available timeslots for that day.

If you don't see a table that fits your group size, you can add your name to a wait list. 

If everything is greyed out it means the day is either sold out or currently not available.

We typically open up reservations one to two months in advance.

Keep checking back, or watch our social media channels for announcements.

This could mean the experience is either sold out for the day, or it is not yet open for reservations.

If your group number reduces, please adjust your reservation yourself, as per below. This really helps us manage the experience for other visitors.

If you are attemping to add more guests than your table will allow, please email us directly as this may mean we are unable to accomodate your request. We can only host a specific amount of guests per time slot so we may require you to reschedule your reservation for a different time of day should you wish to add more guests to your table.

Please note as well:  at this time we are not booking any groups larger than 8 for our Weekend Brunch. If you wish to bring more than 8 to the restaurant, you have two options:

  1. You can book multiple tables during our regular Weekend Brunch; however, you may not be seated close to each other and you may not find all the tables you want during one time slot.
  2. You can book our Maple Magic Wknd Group Pkg 

To cancel Weekend Brunch reservations, click on the "Manage reservation" link in your confirmation email, or log-in to your Tock profile.

To decrease your group size for Maple Magic reservations, click on the "Manage reservation" link in your confirmation email, or log-in to your Tock profile. You will be required to remove the appropriate number of "Main Courses" to equal your new number of guests.

In some cases, if your group size decreases below your original table size, you may receive an error message. If this occurs, email us directly with your reservation number and the total number of actual guests.

To increase your group size for Maple Magic reservations, click on the "Manage reservation" link in your confirmation email, or log-in to your Tock profile. You will be required to add the appropriate number of "Main Courses" to equal your new number of guests.

In some cases, if your group size increases beyond our available table size, you may receive an error message. If this occurs, email us directly with your reservation number and the total number of actual guests.

To cancel your reservation for Maple Magic reservations, click on the "Manage reservation" link in your confirmation email, or log-in to your Tock profile.

You are able to cancel your own reservation up to 24 hours before your reservation time.

If you do cancel some or all of your group, bookings are fully refundable up to 24 hours before the event.

Within 24 hours we appreciate you contacting us by email to cancel but we cannot provide a refund. No-shows will be charged the full price.  Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

We have limited space for Tours; if you are attemping to add more guests than the tour will allow, you'll have to email us directly as this may mean we are unable to accomodate your request.

To cancel Owner-Led Tour reservations, click on the "Manage reservation" link in your confirmation email, or log-in to your Tock profile.

Please contact us directly if you would like to increase or decrease your group size for Chef Night reservations.

Gift Cards

Currently we are not selling Gift Cards. 

To use your gift card for online purchases (such as reservations or deposits), book the experience and pay in-full then email info@sugarmoon.ca with your reservation number and gift card number (a 16 digit code on the back of your card).

We will issue a refund to your credit card for the amount used with your gift card.

Unfortunately we are unable to redeem your gift card without the actual card or the number on the back.

Yes, you do need the actual gift card in order to redeem it at the farm.

Groups

Due to our tiny but mighty staff team & limited dining room capacity, we are not booking any groups larger than 8 for our Weekend Brunch or Maple Magic.

If you want to bring 9 guests or more, you have two options:

  1. You can book multiple tables during our regular Weekend Brunch; however, you may not be seated close to each other and you may not find all the tables you want during one time slot.
  2. You can book multiple tables for our Maple Magic Package and request that you be seated near each other; we'll do our best to accommodate. The Maple Magic 2 hour preordered, prepaid experience at 9:30 Sat/Sun for up to 25 guests total, seated at separate tables.

At this time we are not booking any groups larger than 8 for our Weekend Brunch. 

 

Currently we offer a daytime Group Package on Thursdays and Fridays. Minimum food and beverage spend is $1500. Please refer to our Weekday Group Maple Magic Package.

Evening bookings are sometimes possible. Minimum food and beverage spend is typically $2000. Contact us directly by email to inquire. 

We do host Group Tours (Bus Tours). Please email us directly with any inquiries.

 

Currently we are able to offer a 1-hour Owner-led Sugar Camp tour & sugar-on-snow on Thursdays and Fridays.

Sorry, we do not host Weddings at this time. 

We have welcomed Group Tours here for many years, including Globus, Road Scholar, Gate 1, Freedom Tours and more.

Trails

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own snowshoes.

We have several pairs of snowshoes to rent. At this time we are renting first come-first served, when staff are available to do the rental, until 1 pm.

Rental is $20 + hst per pair prepaid for 3 hours (enough time to do Rogart Mtn Trail).

Our Products

Our products are available in our retail shop at the farm Saturdays and Sundays 10 am to 3 pm.

Jordan, our Administrative Assistant extraordinaire, is no longer working at Sugar Moon, as he has taken on some new professional commitments.

Perhaps one day the Online Shop will reopen, but until then please come visit us and purchase our products at the farm or at the Truro Farmers' Market.

Our products are available at the Truro Farmers' Market Saturday mornings, generally 9 am to 1 pm.

We do not currently wholesale our products.

We do not currently offer personalized wedding favours. You're welcome to inquire about purchasing quantities of any of our retail items, but we do not offer discounts for large orders.

Donations

We contribute to a number of local charities in the immediate area.

You are welcome to submit a brief overview of your cause by email for our consideration.

Unfortunately, due to the number of requests we are unable to respond individually. If you do not hear back from us this means we are not able to contribute and wish you the best of luck with your endevour.

Local Accommodations & Transportation

There are a number of private AirBnbs in the Tatamagouche and Earltown area.

The Balmoral Motel and Train Station Inn are approximately 20 minutes from Sugar Moon.

The Green Dragon Bed and Breakfast is approximately 15 minutes from Sugar Moon. They are currently closed until June 2024.

Hotels in Truro (20-25 minute drive from Sugar Moon) include Comfort Inn, Inn on Prince, Hampton Inn and Suites, Super 8 and Willow Bend Motel.

Unfortunately there is no public transportation out our way.
