Frequently Asked Questions

about Maple Magic

What IS Maple Magic?  This is our signature package - a reserved, prepaid experience offered year round that includes brunch, a sugar camp tour and sugar on snow.

Do I have to book this package online?  Yes, bookings are done online. It's very straightforward. However, if you're having troubles you can email Jordan and he'll be happy to assist you.

When is Maple Magic available?  We offer Maple Magic year round - daily in July and August and most Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Sometime's it's only available once a day - you'll see that when you try to book and view the calendar for availability. For example, in Nova Scotia March Break, it's available Sat/Sun at 9 am and then Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri at 10 am.

What about during the Sugar Season (March/April)? I thought you said you don't take reservations?  On Sat/Sun, we decided to reserve 9 to 10 am for Maple Magic reservations and open to the public for drop-ins 10 am to 4 pm.  It's definitely a new thing! In summary, during the months of March and April Maple Magic is ONLY available as follows:

  • Fridays 10 am
  • Saturday 9 am
  • Sunday 9 am
  • March Break (Tues-Wed-Thurs) 10 am

Drop in visitors can come Fri-Sat-Sun 10 am to 4 pm.

Specifically, can I book Maple Magic at times other than 9 am on Saturdays and Sundays and 10 am on Fridays? No - during the Sugar Season (March/April) that's the only availability. The rest of the year, that availability changes.

What about weekdays during Nova Scotia March Break? Maple Magic is available that week on Tues/Wed/Thur/Fri at 10 am only. There is still some space available.

Can't I simply drop in and get the same experience? Yes, you could drop in any time during regular hours (Fri-Sat-Sun 10-4) and order off the menu, get some sugar-on-snow and sign up for a sugar camp tour. The difference would be that you wouldn't have set menu or a reservation.  You should read our 11 Tips for Visiting during Sugar Season to strategize your visit, especially if you have small children or elderly guests. And then, the rest of the year (any time outside of mid-Feb to mid-April) you can't get sugar-on-snow unless you book Maple Magic.

I'm trying to book online but it doesn't seem to be taking. It likely means that this particular date is full. Try another date. If you're still having trouble, email Jordan@sugarmoon.ca for assistance, or call -1-902-657-3348 and leave a message.

How does the package work in terms of timing? I'm bringing small children and need to know! Typically the package goes in this order: eat, tour, sugar-on-snow. The meal takes about 45 minutes (we have lovely children's books about maple sugaring and pancakes available as well as crayons).  The sugar camp tour is indoors (1/2 of the tour is unheated) and is suitable for all ages. It usually takes 30 - 40 minutes. The sugar-on-snow is typically outside in front of the building.

Any other suggestions about our visit? Plan to allow for time to shop for maple products and to go for a trek through the woods. Trail Conditions are usually updated here. Otherwise, read those 11 Tips for Visiting during Sugar Season for other important details. Also check out our Sugar Season FAQ's for tons of information about this special time at Sugar Moon Farm.

Can I call you and talk to someone?  We're not generally available to answer the phone, even when we are open. However, we do try to return messages quickly, at least on the same day. You can also email and our response is usually pretty prompt! jordan@sugarmoon.ca. Jordan is our awesome Admin Asst and will be happy to answer questions!

Happy Spring!
