Nature Night at Sugar Moon is a series of  informal, fun and engaging events meant to raise awareness and appreciation for nature in all its forms here on the North Shore of Nova Scotia.


We wish to give voice to the dedicated folks who tirelessly advocate for nature.


We aim to foster love. appreciation and a desire to protect and cherish the natural world.

A Walk Through the Sugar Woods

There is so much more to Lichen than meets the eye. Join Lichenologist Robert Cameron for a fascinating interpretive hike at Sugar Moon. We'll learn about how to collect and identify the roll lichen plays in the ecosystem and the rich diversity of lichen in this region that makes it a "hot spot" for lichen in North America.

4:30pm Return to Sugar Moon for refreshments

5pm Dinner

6:30pm Wrap-up


The hike will take place on Sugar Moon property. Participants should dress for a woods walk. Bring a hand lens if you have one. We will have some for use during the hike.



Robert Cameron is an ecologist with the Nova Scotia Department of Environment.

All are welcome. 

Pre-booking is required - limited space!

 Tickets include a tasty pancake meal, hst and gratuities.

Beverages (including liquor) will be available for purchase.



Note: all prices include a $5 donation toward the Nova Scotia Nature Trust.

Adults (aged 13 + up)

$25 (including HST + 15% gratuity)

Two Red Fife buttermilk pancakes topped with seasonal fruit and served with smoked pork sausage, Sugar Moon maple baked beans and a fresh biscuit with maple butter. 


Children (aged 6 to 12)

$15 (including HST + 15% gratuity)

Preschoolers (aged 2 to 5)

$10 (including HST + 15% gratuity)

One wholegrain buttermilk pancake


-Beverages available for additional cost.

-Cash bar available with local cider, wine, beer as well as unlicensed drinks.

-Vegetarian option: Quiche served with organic mixed salad + maple vinaigrette.

-Gluten-free pancakes available (cooked on the same surface as regular pancakes).
