7 tips for Visiting Sugar Moon Farm
on a busy weekend
1. Check out our HOURS. It's a good idea to call first before setting out to make sure we are plowed and open - winter weather can be very different up here in the Cobequids.
We return calls at the end of the day. You can simply get an update. We change the phone message as conditions change. We also update Facebook.
2. Plan on eating in the restaurant...and check in with the host when you arrive. We don't take reservations for the restaurant. Put your name on the list for a table in the dining room, and then take off and explore! Snowshoe the Rogart Trail or the trail to the sugar woods. TIP - There is a large group of 60 eating at 10 am on Monday Feb 20 - NSCC students - they will take up the whole dining room. Plan on eating afterward, and do your tour first instead. They will be out of the dining room by 11.
3. Try some sugar on snow. $2/stick at regular intervals throughout the day, starting at around 10:45.
4. Get in on a sugar camp tour. They happen all day, on the hour, beginning at 10 am. $5/adults, $3/6-12 yrs, preschoolers free. TIP - On Monday the 11 am + 12 pm tours are booked for a large group, so plan on touring at 10 or at 1 pm or later. The last tour of the day is at 3 pm.
5. Dress for winter. If it's a nice day, there will likely be a wait for a table in the restaurant + there is very little indoor waiting space. We're usually snowier than anywhere else in Nova Scotia; make sure your family dresses for snow, cold + outdoor activities (mitts, hats, snow pants, snow boots, extra socks) and your visit will be much more fun!
7. Dogs? We encourage you to leave dogs at home - Sugar Moon is a working farm with a livestock protection dog, horses + electric fences. Dogs are allowed on the Rogart Mtn Trail ON LEAD AT ALL TIMES. Please don't bring your dogs on sugar woods trail behind the restaurant or up the Alex MacDonald Road toward our house. And remember, of course: dog owners must clean up after their dogs + pack waste out - there are no public trash cans at the farm or on the trail.
