The Sugar Moon!

The “Sugar Moon”
The “Sugar Moon”
The Sugar Moon was Wednesday night. 📸 Scott Whitelaw. He says (on FB): “Lol all the "worm moon" posts!  There ain't no worms wakingup in Earltown.  (Still 4-5 feet of frost in the ground).  Now, the maples trees?  They're trying to wake up for sure.  Small run of sap today with, hopefully, more to comefriday/saturday.  Guess that's why the Mi'kmak people's called this the maple moon  :-)”

My post from Facebook: “Extra-special moon tonight we have had Mary Louise Bernard facilitate a Sugar Moon ceremony at the farm in previous years but she is unable to. We send love to her and her family. Instead, we are mindful of the sugar moon and our livelihood being rooted in practices that the Mi’kmaq established thousands of years ago. The fact that it is also the Spring Equinox just makes this moment in time that much more significant. Thank you Mother Earth and Grandmother Moon. 🙏🏼🌝🌏”

We’ve had a VERY busy March Break and are all somewhat exhausted but exhilarated...grateful beyond words for the beautiful customers who have come all the way out to Sugar Moon this week to have fun at a maple syrup farm....and for the amazing team of staff that have pulled off several peak days with grace under pressure. We’re feeling pretty blessed.

So what about the sap? We now await warmer temperatures. Friday? Sun and warmth coming, and then lots of rain! That will bring sap for sure. We just need to collect enough to boil and will have to see if that happens Friday night or Saturday....or Sunday.
