Feb 14 2018 An icy week of tapping!

Conditions have been VERY icy up here! We actually had to close the restaurant on this day, Sunday, because of freezing rain warnings. Good thing we did - there was an accident later on Hwy 311 just down from our place.

The lack of snow and unseasonably warm weather has meant that Scott's working hard to get tapped in.

I  went up to the woods with him on Monday for the first time in a long time. As soon as I got up there on the hill, I remembered how much I missed it. Twenty years here has led to a division of labour that puts me indoors and often in front of a computer far more than I'd like.

I walked with Scott as he finished a line and helped him lower the tubing as he went. The lack of snow makes for great going...but the ICE is seriously tricky in places!

The sugar woods was glorious.

I found fall mushrooms still hanging on.

And lots of deer tracks. Scott says they've been more active than usual because of the sparse snow.

And I found what we think may be fisher tracks.

Scott's up there again today and will be tomorrow.

And I think I'll get off this computer and head up for a bit of a hike before he comes back down!

Be sure to check out Heritage Day activities at the farm this Monday!
