July 2010
Dear friends...warm weather is here. Come visit us during this lovely, leisurely season. We are OPEN every day in July and August between 9 and 5 (restaurant serves til 4:30) offering maple brunch, guided tours, maple tasting and shopping and great hiking.
This time of year we get lots of tourists and cottagers here as well as folks from the city who want to get away for a healthy, wholesome, educational and delicious experience. Lots of visitors are bringing family and friends from away - we are a great Nova Scotia destination to show off!
The Rogart Mtn Trail (Cobequid Ecotrails Society-built trail) is in good shape now and lots of folks are hiking. Check it out!
Those of you wondering why we've cut all the softwood behind our buildings...we are converting this area to pasture. In fact, it used to be pasture, 100 years ago, and grew up in spruce and fir. It all started to decline a few years back and then the Eastern bark beetle settled in...so we decided to enhance the farm and get that pasture back. Very exciting, long-term project for us!
And...did you hear the latest good news about Maple Syrup and its health benefits? Read all about it...
We are OPEN EVERY WEEKEND year round, Saturday and Sunday, serving our maple brunch all day between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm and giving guided tours of our maple sugar operation between 9 am and 5 pm. Starting July 1 we are OPEN DAILY in July and August, as well as the long weekend in September (Labour Day).
Please note that dogs are not allowed on the farm trails because we have livestock protection dogs (Akbash) and electric fences. They are however allowed on the Rogart Mtn Trail (see below) if they are on lead at all times.
Upcoming Chef's Nights...
Our Mother's Day Chef's Night on May 8th with Chef Renee Lavallee and Sommelier Alanna MacIntyre was SOLD OUT...and very exciting as the chef went into labour the day before! Renee contacted us May 7 to break the news...how appropriate for Mother's Day! Fortunately, Craig Flinn (Chives Canadian Bistro) stepped up and came here to do the dinner...along with a crew of friends. It was a GREAT night. Congratulations to Renee and her family on their new addition...Philippe!
We have lots of Chef's Nights planned for this summer and fall. Next one? Sunday August 22 with the Wooden Monkey! Check out the Wooden Monkey menu and the dates of upcoming Chef's Nights HERE.

Maple Info
The sap runs in the spring. Sugar makers have only a 4 to 6 week window of opportunity in March and April to gather sap from maple trees and turn it into the golden elixir of maple syrup. Check out our Sap Journal 2010...and our Sap Journal 2009...
Read our "FAQ" page...or "Frequently Asked Questions" about visiting us during the Maple Season.
It takes 40 litres of sap to product one litre of maple syrup.
