Sugar Moon
Native American name for the sugaring season, the month of freezing nights & warm days usually coinciding with March/April (also called Maple Moon).
Sugar Moon Farm began in 1973 as Boondock Maple Products, owned and operated by Bob Williams. In 1994, we commenced a 2-year apprenticeship learning the craft of maple sugaring. Today we are proud to continue the springtime tradition of making maple syrup over a wood-fired evaporator, fuelled with mountain hardwood.
Sugar Moon Farm is a working sugar maple farm and woodlot. We produce quality food in a manner that supports local agriculture and community, and respects land and water. To this end, we buy locally, use a composting system for our public washrooms and employ draft horse power on our sugar maple farm.
Sugar Moon Farm is Atlantic Canada's Maple Syrup Economuseum - a living museum of the craft of maple sugaring. We offer free tours of our working sugar camp and maple interpretive area, seasonal demonstrations and maple samples.
Sugar Moon Farm is a maple farm for all seasons:
- learn about the history and craft of maple sugaring and maple syrup production in the sugar camp
- hike up through the sugar maples
- enjoy our famous buttermilk pancakes in the log pancake house
- check out our maple retail area
We love having visitors at our farm, welcoming families back year after year and people from all over the world. We hope that you leave Sugar Moon Farm with a passion for the magic of maple!
